Between 1827 and 1879, Winslow Homer made extended summer visits to Houghton Farm in Mountainville, New York. Owned by his principal patron, Lawson Valentine, the farm was a seasonal residence and agricultural research station in the lower Hudson Valley.
This exhibition brings together for the first time, a number of Homer's watercolors, drawings, wood engravings, oil paintings, and ceramic tiles that describe a critical period in Homer's career. Additional works depict various locations across New York State including areas in the Adirondacks and East Hampton.
