Can Isik
Professor, Senior Associate Dean for Academic & Student Affairs
Can Isik received his Ph.D. in 1985 from University of Florida in Gainesville and joined the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at S.U., where he is currently a professor and the Senior Associate Dean for Academic & Student Affairs.
Dr. Isik is a senior member of Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, a member of North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society, and Eta Kappa Nu, and is listed in Who is Who in American Education. He was the general chair of NAFIPS '97, the annual meeting of North American Fuzzy Information Processing Society.
Research Interests
Can's research interests include neural networks, fuzzy logic and their applications in modeling, controls, and indoor environmental systems. He has co-authored a U.S. patent and over 80 papers in those areas. He teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on systems, controls, circuits, robotics, neuro fuzzy applications and engineering & computer science ethics.
His research and development activities in neuro-fuzzy systems have resulted in a variety of software products currently in use at major corporations. They include “Neural network blood pressure monitor” and “Thermomety system” for Welch Allyn Company, "Real time rolling mill model" at Alcan, "Heat pump and air conditioning design system" at U.T. Carrier, "Intelligent data reduction and processing system" at Duke Power Company, and "Short term gas demand forecasting system" at Niagara-Mohawk Power Company.
Teaching Interests
Controls, robotics, neural networks and fuzzy systems, signals and systems, digital circuits, analog circuits, and ECS ethics
